12 Things We Love about Lyci

Today Lyci turns 12. So I thought I would share some of the things we love about her.

1. She is the biggest helper in the world.
2. She is cute.
3. She snorts sometimes when she laughs.
4. When she sleeps she snores, but she will never admit it.
5. She has the biggest heart.
6. Family is very important to her.
7. She loves to be at home.
8. She loves to eat out as much as we do.
9. When she does not feel well, laying in mommy and daddy's bed makes her feel better.
10. She loves animals.
11. Sometimes when she talks, she says things mommy would say.
12. She loves to sit on her daddy's lap, she sits with him everyday.

These are just a few things that make her the sweetest, and most loved girl in our house. She is growing up and although it is fast, we are having a blast with her.

Today, we went to lunch at Pappasitos. Lyci took her friend along with us. Then Lyci, Taylor and I went and got our toes done. Last was the traditional birthday cake and singing.

All in all a good day I hope.

She Bangs...

Lyci is sporting some new bangs. I think they are a little uneven, but after they are fixed, she will look cute. She is unsure, but I like them. It really changes what she looks like.

Am I smarter than a 5th grader?

We shall see next year. I am skipping 4th and heading straight to 5th. With all the economic issues, schools being hit too, we are losing teachers and increasing class sizes. Since this is happening, I will be teaching 5th grade next year. Fifth is a hard grade for many reason. Let me name a few...

1. They have smart mouths.
2. The DRAMA is crazy!!!
3. I can only do third grade math.
4. The kids have to pass reading and math CRCT.
5. They have smart mouths, wait did I say that already?
6. They are taller then I am.
7. Well I know there are more, but I am getting depressed listing them all.

I think I will manage pretty well. But as you can tell I am nervous about the math. I guess I will spend all summer studying up on it.

Cheerleading and TaeKwonDo

Lyci is now officially a Scoggins Gator cheerleader!!! We got the call last night and are so happy. She worked really hard and it is an awesome thing to see her try her best and reach her goal. Way to go Lycibug!!!!

Riain took his first Tae Kwon Do class today. He was so excited and looked so cute in his uniform. I think this will be a good activity for him to particulate in.

I know my children are good hearted, kind, affectionate and love their family very much. But there are times when others get to see this gentle and compassionate side of them. As Riain's instructor was helping him put his belt on, he noticed a yellow bracelet on his wrist. This is the conversation I heard.

Instructor- We usually do not allow any type of jewelry on during class.

Riain- Well, this is how I support my uncle, who was just diagnosed with cancer. I do not ever take it off. I will not take it off until he is cured.

Instructor- Since that is what it stands for then you may keep it on.

Riain- Thank you

Then he turned and smiled at me. I was so proud to be his mom at that moment. The fact that he was standing up for something he believes in.

The pic is not good, I will get better ones next week.

Milestones

As a parent we are faced with many different milestones. There are ones that make you proud, like the first time your baby says "mama." Then there are the ones that make you question yourself, like when find an empty beer bottle in their rooms. Last, there are the ones that break your heart, like today when Lyci looked at me and said, "Mommy you do not have to walk me in." My heart was broken.

I guess I should start with the conversation at home. We were getting ready for cheerleading tryouts, day 2. I asked if she wanted me to walk her in and she said yes. So, of course I was ready to complete my mommy duties of walking in and making sure things were good. Yesterday which was the first day of practice, she was stuck to me. I only left when I got the look that it was good to go. Lyci is such a mommy and daddy's girl, and is not embarassed to have me walk her places. She reminds me a lot of me.

Lyci is now a girl who walks into places on her own or with her friends. It is a fact of life, that I do not need to hold her hand for everything. I just hope there are still moments that she wants me to.
