Look out South Paulding Middle School...

Yesterday Lyci took part in the day in the life of a 6th grader at her new school. It was hard for me to leave, I think I told her bye and I love you about 10 times. SHe was like "Ok Mommy," and " You have already told me bye." Heartbroken and a little, scratch that a lot sad, I left and came home. Well the morning went by and I went to pick her up. She was all smiles and had exciting info to tell me. She has a list of clubs she wants to join, she talked to the cheerleaders and got some tryout pointers and opened a locker on her first time. All in all she had fun.

All summer long I have dreaded this. Lyci going to middle school. She is so sweet and innocent, I just do not want to lose that. I was so worried because most of her friends are going to another school. And there she is, she just takes off and does not look back. I guess we are lucky to have a daughter like her. I know she will do great. Brian reminds me, that she has a level head on here shoulders and then I feel better.

As we start the next three years of middle school, I get sad and happy. I was told something yesterday that sums up how our children change in Middle school.

"They are not the same children they used to be, and are not the people they will become."

As school starts in a week, I know my daughter will not be the same innocent, little girl she has been the last 11 years, nor will she be the woman I know she will become. I raise my glass and invite a drink to the next three years, may we all make it out of middle school in one peice.
